BANGOR, Maine — Todd Palin, husband of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, will spend the weekend in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District.

Palin is the first marquee-name surrogate from either party to campaign here during the general election. He will host a barbecue with supporters at the Moosehead Trail Trading Post in Palmyra at 2 p.m. Saturday and another at Harry’s Motor Sports in Presque Isle at noon Sunday.

Both events are open to the public.

Last week, Sen. John McCain’s campaign announced it was sending resources to Maine in hopes of putting the state’s four electoral votes in play. Maine is one of only two states that split electoral votes, and McCain believes he at least can contest the state 2nd Congressional District, historically the more conservative of the two.

So far, McCain’s resources have been limited to advertising buys in the Bangor and Presque Isle media markets, although there have been swirling rumors of a high-profile visit for days.

Todd Palin’s appearances will help highlight McCain’s commitment to contest the Pine Tree State, said University of Maine political scientist Mark Brewer.

“I’ve always thought McCain had a shot in the 2nd District,” he said. “And [Palin] certainly doesn’t hurt, although I don’t know that she helps as much as some people think.”

Brewer said the similarities between Maine and Alaska, where the Palins live and where Sarah Palin has been governor for the last two years, are obvious. The McCain-Palin ticket has received the endorsement of the Maine Snowmobile Association, which has close to 30,000 members, many in northern Maine.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has held a comfortable advantage in Maine since the primary season ended in June, although two recent polls have shown a closer race.

Brewer said it’s likely the Obama campaign would send a surrogate to Maine before Election Day, but predicted that it might be a bigger name now.

“What this probably does is raise the caliber of surrogate,” he said. “And then, of course, if Sarah Palin comes, [Obama] will send an even bigger name.”

The Obama campaign has not made any announcements about surrogates coming to Maine.

Free whale blubber sandwiches and signed Miss Alaska swimsuit photos for every vote. Don't forget to bring ya six packs.

More like a 12 pack old bearded one. I might be thirsty.

This is absurd. What could this guy possibly have to say that anyone would want to hear?

I am excited that someone from the MCCAIN/PALIN ticket coming to Maine. All I can say is anyone who votes for Barack Hussein Obama has to be blind. He is associated with a known terrorist, a Muslim leader, and Acorn. What do you want??? T hand him your soul?? I can't understand why the American people are so blind towards his ways.

Also VOTE YES ON REF#1. We need control on the taxes snuck into our lives late in the night! NO MORE TAXES! Dirigo will survive without it ro they won't but I don't want to pay for anyone's health care but my own. I am not sorry to say that. I already pay taxes for TANF, Fuel Assistance, Food Stamps, c'mon enough is enough! YES on 1 !

And what could this person have to say that would influence a serious voter. It shows how desparate they are.

Hey Bangorian, the only thing that is absurd about Todd Palin's visit is your objection. I for one, would like to hear what he has to say since he is very much like me and a lot of my friends. I would not find it absurd for Joe Biden's wife to come to Maine on campaign visits. Nor would I ponder whether or not she had anything of value to say. It seems the lefties would love to be able to dictate who's opinion can be voiced. Intimidation and hate...cutting a candiates boat loose. Now that's they way to show respect for free speech...

Who cares? The reason they're sending that idiot to Maine??? We're only worth two electoral votes!! The other one is going to Obama. Do you really think Sarah Palin or McCain would actually fly to Maine for one stupid electoral vote. What a slap in the face for you Mainers. If I were you, I'd move from that poor, high taxed, poorly led state! Also, taxes on snacks sounds like a good idea for you Maine people, being that Maine is one of the fastest states (per capita) in the country. No wonder your taxes are so high. Too many fat people! So not only is Maine one of the fattest states, it's also the one of the poorest

?? Fat, poor, and stupid is no way to go through life Mainers.

Maine has many small communities maybe they are waiting on a COMMUNITY ORGANIZER to come visit before they get excited. I know that I really get excited when I see my community organizer. Get real people, a governor for 2 years and a former mayor on one ticket vs a 2 year senator who has NEVER introduced a bill in the senate and being a community organizer on the other ticket. Let's be fair, if you are going to bash one then you have to bash the other. Both are qualified equally as far as I'm concerned...........

The grass roots folks of Maine are anxious to meet him, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and six packs are our way of life. The libs that have moved here from Joisey, New York, and other undesirable places are all looking forward to the Muslim terrorist that walks like a chicken to show up, maybe Springstein will be with him to get the hype movin.

Hello mearngwife!! Bush is associated with all the known terrorists, they are actually in financial bed together....DUH! Of course Todd Palin is going to the heart of Redneck country in Maine, no one else would listen to him. I hope he dums down his speech enough for all the republican Mainahs! peace and love

Hey Mainbad - I'm all for letting the guy talk, it's just that he's a nobody and hasn't ever done anything that would make him a legitimate voice of national politics. Heck - in the name of free speech, they should pass the microphone around the crowd and let everyone have a chance to talk. We're all as qualified as he is - you should worry that this is the best McCain can come up with.

And pseym4, don't forget we have the most cigarette smokers and Allen's coffee brandy drinkers here, too! You're right! If poor Mainahs would spend their money on their health and not junk food, cigarettes and liquor, we'd be better off for sure. peace and love

Ralph Nader was in Portland on Monday night, but didn't get much news coverage at all, even though he is responsible for much of the consumer rights we enjoy today. He is far more intelligent than Obama, McCain and especially Todd Palin. Mainahs are so celebrity hungry, they'll get excited over anyone.

Gee, while Todd's here maybe the press can get a straight answer from him about how much HE had to do with the head of Alaska's State Troopers being fired? Seems the RNC doesn't want the Alaska Bi-Partisan legislative investigative report to be released about how Palin (husband and wife) made that happen - and First Dude was in the governor's office - using state phones and resources so much to take care of her family grudge HE should be on the hot grill, too. Sure sounds like she must have some J.Edgar Hoover/Richard Nixon ethics in her DNA. If for no other (even remote)reason than Palin becoming President, Obama is The Man we need to have in the Oval Office for some genuine ethical leadership. John McCain lost his honor as soon as put his desire to become president before his code of ethics and country. Otherwise he wouldn't have let the RNC put Palin on the ticket with him.

You worried about Todd Palins' imvolvement while Barack HUSSEIN Obama is rubbing elbows with Terrorists and denying it. Todd Palin admitted he was trying to get someone fired who was harrassing his family, hurting his sister, and was not fit to be a trooper. Hussein Obama is a dangerours man who some DEMS are calling the Messiah! that is gonna make God very very angry! He is dangerous...DANGEROUS! HUSSEIN OBAMA is the one who will be president, NOT Sarah or Todd Palin,.....unless the President dies, but then it will be a woman who has a mind of her own...AND a woman who will not have sex in the oval office with an intern, lie to the American people...oh by the way, I believe President Bush was an awesome president, he had to deal with 911, war, natural disatsters and more...he had alot on his plate and I support him to this day! He is my hsuband's Commmander in Chirf and I thank him for his service to the US and Maine! NO HUSSEIN OBAMA!!!

John McCain lost his honor as soon as put his desire to become president before his code of ethics and country. Otherwise he wouldn't have let the RNC put Palin on the ticket with him.

You are calling Sen Mccain a dishonarble man? hahahahaha that is funny!!! He served and served and served in the military, whatever happened in Alaska did not effect national security as the things Clinton or Obama have been involved in. What is gonna appen if Hussein Obama is elected and another 911 happens? Oh wait! Maybe he will be the cause of it with all his terroists friends.....hmmmmmmm You are pretty hard on a family trying to PROTECT their family!!!! What happened in ALASKA shoudl stay in Alaska! hahahahha Barack HUSSEIN OBAMA, what a nice Christain name for a president of the US! Makes you wanny cry a little to think of a Muslim President, oh wait, it scares me half to death!

'pseym4' and 'cherry'. Thanks for bashing our state! I don't know where you live or come from but you are obviously somehow interested with us or you wouldn't be wasting our time with your comments. Anyway, if we are such a poor fat state will you please tell all your friends that have your attitude to stop moving to Maine! I'm so sick of you people from away that think you can just move to our state and then continuously put us down! Obviously we must be worth something or people wouldn't keep moving here!

As for Mr. Palin coming to our state, YEAH!!!

If I ask anything from any of you Domocrat or Republican just please vote! Please tell all your friends to vote! This is the problem, young people just don't and we need to encourage them to! Locally as well!

Anyone in District 35 please vist ricksavage4maine.com!!!

GO VOTE!!!

Does the word BLACK have anything to do with your fears mearngwife...Barack Hussein Obama was given the name of his father by a white woman that loved both of them...and oh by the way Muslims beleive in the same god as we do they even believe in Christ they just don't think of him as the Massiah..they feel he was great and wonder profit...your statment leads me to beleive that all Muslim are bad and all Christains and good...that is far from the case extrems are extrems no mater where they come from....I'm as true a Mainah as the come.. My family came to Maine as indentured slaves because they were Scotish POW's ....then they had to fight England again in the Revolution...we are a hard working proud bunch.....but also fair and god loving....Bushes have been in bed with the Bin-larden family for decades bucause of OIL...look it up it's true... in fact we paid bin larden to drive Russia out of Afganistan then ignored him that's why they hate us because our goverment made promises they didn't keep....and I think God is proud of Barack Obama and the good things he has done...with his life God is about love not hate....God so love the world....and god loves all his childrenno mater the color of their sink!!!! it says so in the BIBLE!!!!

pseym4. why don't you say what you REALLY mean? How much do You weigh ,honey?? Why are you even commenting here to begin with? If this is the way you feel, then stay the hell wherever it is you come from!!

You're right: this is a total waste of time. Sarah Palin's spouse has probably been proud of his country all of his life. He does not have ties to Ayres, and other known terrorists. He has not received the endorsement of Hamas, Ghadaffi (check my spelling on that), Sol Alinsky, Ted 'Killer' Kennedy, ACHORN, moveon.org.,ActUp, Black Panthers, and the Nation of Islam----- ad nauseum........

I might go even though I'm voting for Barak at this point. Why? I like hearing people out at least and maybe for good or for ill he's down to earth. I'd like to see tough questions answered. On another note, the thing with Obama being a terrorist or consorting with one is not a fact. On CNN's Fact Checker it shows it's not true. Obama was eight years old when Ayers did the things he did. Here is the truth:

I am conened about his background. Hey look...Muslims do make me feel nervous....The Muslims DO NOT believe in God and Christ, they condemn the Bible. But look I am not judging them, God of the Bible will judge them...As for me and my soldier husband we will follow God and trust that he will lead us into safe ground with Sen Mccain and Gov Palin. Barack Hussein Obama, who would not put his hand over his heart during the National Anthem and who sat in a church that sadf GD America and who is more racist than the most hateful of people, will show you in the end if eelcted we will be the target of the worst terroism the US has ever known....how will Barack Hussein handle that?

Vote yes on # 1

Ayers NEVER admitted he was wrong or sorry! He is guilty and Barack Hussein Pbama is his friend....and consort.

I don't think I have read so much hate in my life. Todd Palin, Sarah Palin, Barrack Obama, John McCain, Joe Biden, or any other candiates that are running this year have ever done anything to harm anyone to my knowledge. Until there is proof positive that any of them are, in fact idiots, (by scientific, or medical definition?), terrorist, or traitors, one should give the courtesy of respect for them personally. While I will be the first to comment on FAILED policy or legislation or opinions, I do not express hate for anyone. That includes enemies I may have encoutered in my time in the military...I't nothiung personal. (Hate is a distraction to the mission, fellow vets you know what I'm talking about) It is always a treat to have anyone of notoriety visit our state. perticularly in the 2nd district.

Having Todd Palin visit Northern Maine is similar to sending lesser-known Red Sox players here after winning a World Series. The gesture is symbolic not insulting. I doubt he will want to talk about policy any more than we would want to hear that from him Let's face it, we have a small population and few electoral votes so we're not going to get the big guys and gals like other states. Sending Todd Palin as an ambassador of the campaign is, in my opinion, more interesting than sending a paid lackey to spew forth the sound bites and talking points we've heard repeatedly from both sides. Political spouses have filled this human interest role throughout history so why the nasty comments now? Do I sense sexism? Wives were expected to kiss babies and shake hands and nobody ever asked them to present a thesis on the economy during their campaign stops.

I would hope that he will be welcomed to Maine like any other visitor to our state and will be spared some of the borderline criminal attacks perpetrated in the Bangor political arena as of late. In the face of heated elections it is disappointing to see hatred surface on both sides. If the answers were obvious there would be no need to vote. Let's welcome any representative of any campaign with equal respect. I respect the opinions of those who differ with me because they are at least involving themselves in the process. I reiterate the sentiments of GoVote above and encourage those of all ideologies to vote.

why was my question idiotic or insane yes extrem Muslim condemn our bible because it is not there's.. Muslim faith comes from the story of abraham, sarah and haggar... sarah paid haggar to lay with abraham ... to give him a son ,because she could not.. abraham begat Ismael then ..sarah even though she thought she was to old...be came with child that child was Isaac...and she cast out haggar and her son...Ishmae followers because Muslim Isaac followers were Jews.....the Karan is the old testment and other Muslim writing yes I do know this I've read it.. but no where does they don't beleive in Christ ...Christ to the true Muslim is Holy profit...The Jews also believe this...our Bible was written by Men that changed to word of god around to suit them...Magdelaina was not a whore until Pope Gregory disided she should be...And I don't think I'll go to hell because I read the karan to try to understand The true and good Muslim if more of us did that this world would be a better place...Hating thing you don't understand is wrong...educating yourself about them...lessens fear and makes us stonger...and by the way no where does it say you have put your hand over your heart at the playing of the National Anthem...it is a suggestion of proitcal at best..he stood very proudly with his hands behinde his back in that doctored picture....and by the way Im no Idiot!!! sorry for any miss spellings that is not one of my stong suits...

I never said YOU were an IDIOT!!! I SAID>>>>To answer your idiotic insane question...I said your question was. Please do NOT misquote me. Bottom line is, I am glad Todd Palin is coming to Maine, Clinton went all over the place campaigning for Hillary. Maine people can relate to them, they are like us, the love their kids, protect their families, work hard, play hard, shoot things, and are proud to be Americans. I do not hate anyone or anything, please understand that. I just want what I think is best for this country, unfortunetly I do not have the final word. If I said something that offended or sounded like hatred..I APOLOGIZE!

I am not predjudice, I have an adopted foreign child, I adore him. I want the best for him and my grandduaghter in the futue, I believe Sen Mccain and Gov Palin are the best for our country. God Bless our state and our country.

hey rocklandphil if todd palin is so proud of his country why is it he joined the Alaska Independence Party a party who wanted to secede from the country he is probably been so proud of all his life NOT

mearngwife:

Obama is not a Muslim. Do you know that? And I'm interested in why you say he's "more racist than the most hateful of people". Plus, I can't believe how much play the McCain/Palin camp has gotten out of this Ayers thing. To me, it seems desperate. I lived in Chicago for a total of 8 months (not long) and even I ran into Ayers several times, I sat next to him at a poetry reading and panel. Does that mean that make me unAmerican? They were on a board together, THEY'RE NOT "PALS". What people say about connections between Bush and the Bin Ladens is true, that info is not that hard to find anymore. (Although it's tougher than it should be, because they don't want you to know about it) So that's the stuff you really have to take into question, that and McCain's tight ties with corrupt people like Keating.

And honestly, unless you're in the uppercrust of society, a vote for McCain is a vote for your own downfall as far as I'm concerned. I believe in Barack Obama and his community organizing experience, as much as people want to belittle it, has prepared him to "reach across the aisle" find just and common ground and work for every day people. I think that if most Mainers, or people in general, were to look at Obama's beginnings, we'd be able to identify with him too. Single parent, sometimes on food stamps, etc. I want someone in Washington who knows what living like that is like, not someone who owns seven houses and who has voted with Bush and against real people.

As far as Mr. Palin coming to Maine, I think it makes a lot of sense and there's no reason why we shouldn't listen to what everyone has to say. I just hope that middle and lower class Americans and people who are losing their jobs because of trade agreements taking factories and overseas will vote for Obama in the end, because he's the hope that we need to pull ourselves out of all this and really come together.

Cherry loves to p**s people off, when will you people get a life? Did you ever think for one milisecond that most of the postings on here are just pure Bulls**t? I personally have about 10 different names that I use to post things on this website just to get a rise outta all of you since I'm a homebound disabled veteran and have no life. But you all should find something better to do than to waste your time getting stressed out about politics. Next time you read a post, think about the chance that someone might be PLAYING YOU!! Ha ha freekin Ha!

Oh good! Mr. Dumbass is paying us a visit. He'll have a great time, I'm sure. After all, I bet that castrating b......... never lets him speak at home...

I applaud Mr. Palin's visit! I fully support McCain/Palin, not because I am racist and am deeply resent the comments Senator Obama has made about white Americans. I AM a Christian and I believe in the second ammendment. Obama scares me, not because of his name or religious beliefs, but because he is an empty suit. I listened to the complaints about Governor Palin not having enough experience, blah, blah, blah. Barack Obama has a longstanding history of poor judgment- from his 20 year association with Rev. Wright to William Ayers and Franklin Raines. He claims to not have anything to do with Fannie Mae, but his signature is all over a lawsuit, on behalf of Fannie May, to extend loans to people who had absolutely no means to repay them. Also, he is the poster child for the Daly political machine in Chicago- I know, because I grew up there. For those who don't know what this means, it's pretty simple. It's thuggery, dating all the way back to when Richard Daly, Sr. was mayor of Chicago. Obama's tactics for getting elected to the Illinois Senate were learned at the "university of Daly"- knock all of your opponents off the ballot by any means necessary. The people who worship this guy as if he was the messiah need to do some research. If you were smart, "Cherry" you'd spend less time messin' with people and more time doing something productive. Collect stamps or something.

Good for Mr. Pailin! Maybe he can show a little more intelligence than his wife has. As for all of you that wish to believe McCain/Pailin lies about Obama being a terrorist, maybe you should have been concerned with Mr. Bush and his ties to the Bin Laden family. You all remember the guy responsible for 9/11 don't you? That's right.... Mr. Bush borrowed money from the Bin Laden family for an oil deal, that went belly-up, in the 80's. Bush then failed to pay back millions. And, isn't it kind of funny that 24 of Bin Laden's family were allowed to leave the country on private jets, while the FBI was told to "stand down", on 9/11. I guess you should have been fearful of the idioit that we have had in office over the last 8 years.

As for McCain being honarable.... I thank him for his years of service to this country however, I do not believe in the dirty politics that he is resorting to makes him honorable. When your own strategist admit that they are going to attack Obama's character to pull the focus away from the economy should send a message to people. Like maybe that they have no clue how to fix it?

Peace and love being sent your way Cherry. Some one should give Todd a drink of "allens and a ciggie" while he begs for votes for his precious. I agree with you 100% also. I spend more time giggling at people getting pissy all the time.

Oopsie.

Great 'mavericky' surrogate!

if you want Bush for another 4 years, then just get McCain/Palin in there

nurse54: When a person starts of a sentence with "not because I'm a racist" it usually means that deep down they are. I too am a Christian and never in my life have I seen a candidate spew hate and fear such as Sarah Pailin has. Remember what is written in (Matthew 7:15) "Watch out for false prophets. They will come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves." Sarah Pailin has proven that she is just that.

Obviously these parasites are exempt from the "Do Not Call List" Mr. Palin tried to contact me last night. He ws told to save his breath and I hung up.However, he had to be told twice. Not too quick.

Just to add to what elmerfudd wrote:

The only poeple allowed to leave the United States after the 9/11 attack were members of the Bin Ladin family. Isn't that strange!

Todd Palin is patriotic? Then why was he a member of a political party that wanted Alaska to secede from the United States of America? Perhaps he can explain why his wife was found guilty of abuse of power in the firing of the state of Alaska's public safety commissioner because he refused to fire her brother in law who was in a bitter divorce battle with her sister? McCain's ads attacking Obama's character have obviously backfired since he has dropped in the polls this past week. McCain made a huge mistake in who he chose for his running mate. Too many questions about her, there were a lot more women much more qualified than her.

Of all place's in Maine's 2nd District, he goes to Palmyra. PALMYRA. That place is gonna be hectic as all hell today, $2.99 a gallon gas, super walmart, todd palin, BURGER KING. goddamn that place is gonna be the center of Maine's universe for the next decade

I just was in Palmyra it was bad

Todd Palin wasn't even a registered Republican at the time Sarah got the nod to be on the Ticket.

Considering MAINE has TWO Senators who are better educated and FAR more qualifued to be VP, I find his visit aslmost as absurd as mearngwife's SLANDEROUS lies about Obama.

Last time I checked Maine had 4 Electoral votes. That's 1 more than Alaska.

McCain, Palin, or their spouses would get a warm reception in Millinocket, you know, the town Southern Maine wishes would go away!

.

I’m Voting McCain, Collins, Frary & Smith because they stand for my hot points, while the others are against these areas:

2nd Amendment-

Growth for Northern Maine-

Right to Life-

No more voting convicts-

Honest voting ballots-

Small Business-

Represent the feelings of Senior Citizens-

Cherry, You must be a miserable person.

Poor, poor, Cherry. Has a difficult time getting her point across, so she must resort to speaking as though Mainers are a subspecies. FYI Maine happens to be home to people from all over this great nation, as well as many other nations. Get a clue sweetheart. And let's try to be more positive, ey.

Where's Palmyra?

SteveyDee...Brevity, young man...use Brevity. It makes you "unintelligent". I wish we were back to the old website where we could post pictures. I loved yours. Mainelyme's, also!

.....fast forward.....October, 2135. "Who was Obama, anyway"?
