Casino developers eyeing Maine sites
By The Associated Press

OXFORD, Maine — Representatives of the Olympia Group are shopping for a site for a proposed Oxford County resort casino that is subject to approval by Maine voters in November.

Realtor Tom Kennison of Kennison Real Estate said Monday he will show the Las Vegas-based group three or four sites near Route 26 this week.

Supporters say a $150 million casino with a 125-bed hotel would create 800 jobs.

Gov. John Baldacci has vetoed a Passamaquoddy-backed bill to create a racino in Washington County, and the Maine Legislature rejected a Penobscot-backed bill to allow slot machines on Indian Island.

I hope with all my heart that you Maine voters will consider voting yes for a nice Casino operation in Maine. I was born there and stayed there for over thirtyfive years, and there was always a need for good jobs, where you could make agood living. I have worked in the casino industry for many years here out west in Nevada and in Arizona and in southern California. The operation here in San Diego county is ofcourse on indian land, mamaged by Harrah`s, I might mention one of fourteen operations in the county, the effects have been positive truly for both the indians and the comunnity as a whole. Nothing but a win win situation lots of good paying jobs, lots of entry level jobs , the spike to the local busines has been great for instance jmagen a local food supplier delivering one hundred thousand dollars worht of food a week or more, I could go on for ever, on the good points. Our reservations here are top notch New Fire Stastions New health care buildings and schools new homes you just cannot beleive the positive changes to the area, remember the casino will operate year round and not like the summer resorts close at the end of the summer, I urge all you good folks to vote yes,to Maine with love

trading beads and feathers for education, medical facilities, etc. does not look like the promised land.... the tables are rigged, as well as the slots... what kind of job' does it entail... counting to 10 is a must... but that's about all.... this is corruption moving into maine. and as far as the indians go, they need to learn, honesty first and foremost...and the fact that everybody has to WORK for a living..... and gambling is not work....it's rich man's play!

My My you must be talking about a libral operation, I am sure your dear governor is used to such typs of business.I am not native american and no the tables are not rigged and neither are the slots, those days went you with the horse and buggy honey. And corruption moving into Maine no its already there look at some of the corrupt leaders you have had both in church and government, its every where the gamming comissions are much more strict even more so that the exsistiing government. So turn your lights on in the cave you live in and come out Maria.

I would rather put my money away and let it build interest that gambling it away in these places. It is all a waste of time, we don't need anymore here. Let them stay in Nevada it's a good place for them.
