St. Albans man shoots self in head by accident

ST. ALBANS, Maine — A 35-year-old Todds Corner Road man was accidentally shot in the head Saturday night and the bullet was still lodged in his skull.

Somerset County Deputy Sheriff Michael Ross, who investigated the incident, said the man tripped and the gun went off about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Ross said that because of other issues surrounding the case, he did not want to identify the man or give details of the shooting.

The man was taken by ambulance to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield and then taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he was listed in stable condition, Ross said.

“He is very lucky,” Ross said of the man’s condition.

How does tripping make a gun go off?

“He is very lucky,” Ross said of the man’s condition........And stupid!

Either that gun is messed up, the wording on this article is off, or this is really one freak thing. Trip over a gun and it goes off? Well it don't say the type of gun, but still this is one lucky guy, someone had his back.

Seriously - do you have a 5 year old writing these articles? "A 35-year-old Todds Corner Road man was accidentally shot in the head Saturday night and the bullet was still lodged in his skull." What kind of sentance is that? It makes no sense. The opening line should have read "A 35-year-old Todds Corner Road man remains in the hospital in stable condition after an accidental firearm discharge left him with a bullet lodged in his skull." Who is writing these things? You're supposed to get the main points of a news story in the first sentance - not be forced to read the entire article to try to make sense of the poorly composed first line.

Calm down Mary, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. The article says he tripped. He didn’t trip over the gun. He most likely tripped while carrying the gun with his finger on the trigger.

MaryAnn - it's spelled sentence not sentance. Maybe the guy was actually tripping.....ya know, on acid. Should have been smoking pot, would've been safer.

Mary, you should really broaden your horizions and read other on-line news sites. you'll find more of the same and in many cases much, much worse. This guy was obviously trying for a darwin award. A shame he failed.

Thanks Cherry, I was about to write the same thing. The word sentence is with e not an a. I couldn't believe that someone was so worried about the way it was worded and spelled so poorly not just once, I thought at first it was a type o but then the second time I realized she was spelling it wrong. I would notice spelling before the wording.
